Oxygen - Journey of an Artist

Wooo!  This project is finally seeing the light of day.

Janey had wanted a little "mini-doc" of her trip to Orange Studios to re-record some vocals for an updated version of one of her collaborative songs.  I was starting to get into video at the time and thought it would be a good project to start out with.

Neither of us really had a clear idea of what the scope of the video was beyond the time she would be in the studio recording, so we recorded a good narrative about the stuff she has been through, and then a good days worth of video to cut together.  A storyboard probably would have been helpful, but we were just making it up as we went.  For off the cuff, we were both very happy with how it turned out.

A big thanks to Jason @ The Orange Lounge studio for letting me in there while he was working with Janey, and letting me stick my camera wherever I wanted.  I had no idea so many high profile artists had been through there until I started seeing all the things on the walls.

Due to some legal issues, the release of this had to wait until now because Janey was under some sort of contractual obligations that needs to be sorted out.  But finally, after so many months of just sitting on this, waiting for the day to come, its finally here!  Considering it was my first attempt at video, Im very happy with it (technical limitations of the camera aside).  Some of the things I learned while doing this video I was able to apply and correct to the next project, which was Isabell and Stephen's engagement video.

Im enjoying doing video, and while its alot more work than photography, I hope to keep doing it and helping people bring some great stories to a wider audience.

Isabell & Stephen, Engagement

Isabell and Stephen will be my last wedding this year come end of October, and instead of doing engagement photos to lead up to it, we decided to do a video. It realy is an interesting story of how forces on the other side of the world can bring people together, and how something great came out of something so terrible.

OOOOMMMMMGGGGG!!!! your amaziing! So amazing! Stephen and I love it! you really do magic! We cant believe it! Love Love! We both could kiss you, you’re so talented!

(.. I think they liked it!)

Cynthia & Abel

This job was a pleasant surprise.  I first heard from Abel through a car forum I am a part of.  I haven't been on the forum in a very long time, but long ago I posted a thread to advertise my site here.  Somehow Able found it and buried deep in the list of threads on that forum, and contacted me.

“Aaron captured moments we didn’t think possible! His creative style and artistic talent are the reasons we chose to have him as our photographer and we’re absolutely pleased with the results; the photos are fantastic! He’s great to work with, easy going and made the whole experience enjoyable. Thanks Aaron!””

While the main wedding was a destination event in Turks And Caicos, Cynthia and Abel wanted some photos of their reception here with all of their family present.  It was a shorter day than usual, but was pretty complete minus the actual ceremony.  I was also treated to a new (to me) traditional of fighting for the bride, where the groom has to run the gauntlet of tricks and traps to be allowed to pick-up his bride.  Fortunately the worst of it was limited to lemon wedges, wasabi peas, and kissing your brother!  Here are a few of my favorite shots of the day...

City Tour Flight

Here is another bunch of photos I've been sitting on for a while.  It was sometime in the spring since you can still see snow on the ground.

Now for some name dropping.... my old friend Scott Wilson asked me if I'd like to go with him for a city tour flight one day back a few months ago.  You may know Scott from such TV shows as Departures, and more recently Descending.

I was surprised that it was actually a bit of a challenge to shoot in such a small space.  I'm used to shooting out the little window of an airline as it floats gently through the clouds, not these little Cessnas that barely have enough room for 2 people in the front, and shake your bones loose (that's a slight exaggeration).

The last time I'd been in a small plane like that I was (or was almost) very sick, so I was a bit nervous, but all went well.  I got to see the house where I grew up, my parents current house, my current house, and of course all the pretty lights over downtown Toronto.  I took a few shots along the way and promised Scott too long ago that I'd post them.  Well I guess that day has finally come! As promised to Scott, here are a few shots from our hour in the skies together...
