Camping

I don't usually write many paragraphs, but when I do, its about camping.

I haven't been camping in a man's age.  I really don't think I had much desire to go though.  We used to go all the time when we were kids, and it was usually with Andrew, and his brother Tom, and their parents.  I think the last time I was camping was just with Andrew and Tom, and we went to Sauble Beach and it poured rain the entire time.  So much so that we had to dig trenches around the tents to keep them from being flooded, and we spent pretty much the entire time under a tarp suspended over the table, playing magnetic chess beside a citronella candle.  So, with that being the last memory I had, I guess I wasn't keen on going back for me.  But after Andrew told me he was planning a bike trip up to Tobermory, I thought Id tag along.  In the end, I wasn't able to go on my bike due to an arm injury, but that gave me a chance to finally get my car back on the road.

It was a 4 day trip (for me, Andrew kept going after I headed home) to Tobermory Prov. Park.  We were pretty much the only people in the general area of where we were in the park.  There was 1 other tent a few spots down but I don't think I saw them once.  At night it was black, and cold.  If you walked down to the lake, out of the cover of the trees, the stars were super bright and you could actually make out what was around you, but stepping back into the trees and it was liking walking back into a wall of dark.

Despite the cold, and the fact that I had to sleep on the floor of my car, it was a good time and let me get away from the city for a while and leave some worries behind.

Andrea & Joe

Andrea and Joe... a true power couple if ever there was one.  She is a doctor, and he is a lawyer, but both are also great, down-to-earth people.

I was on this wedding as a second shooter as they needed someone to run a photobooth during the reception, but I was able to shoot all day as well.  I was realy excited about this as it added another great venue to this years line-up of interesting locations.  This wedding was held at the AGO in Toronto.  Great light, great backdrops, and lots of interesting shots.

Here are some of my favorites from the day...

Erin & Josh

This was one of those days that just flew by!  We only had about an hour with both Erin and her girls, and Josh and the guys, before we all had to run off from Kitchener to Cambridge to get to the Mill on time.  It just seemed like it was non stop running back and forth, trying to get pictures of the venue between sprints to the other end of the Mill to see if Erin's limo was pulling up yet!  Thankfully it wasn't a terribly hot day, so it was manageable.   I also decided to break with tradition and try some flash lighting on the dance floor.  Im glad I did because it got realy dark after sunset!

We really enjoyed having Aaron as our photographer. His unique style and image really shows in the pictures that he takes. He captures the moment rather than taking your typical posed pictures. He lets you call the shots but adds his own little twist to each shot....we would definitely recommend him to others, when looking for a wedding photographer!

A great venue on the water, lots of fun and activity happening all around, and more Hornblower jokes than I've heard anywhere else (Josh's last name).  All in all, a fast and hectic day, but some great shots to show for it...

Lauren & Tim

When I first met with Lauren and Tim to discuss their wedding plans, and he said they wanted to do their post-wedding formal shots at a gun range, I said I have to do this wedding!  Unfortunately the range ended up being unavailable for the day of the wedding, but being out in the country, Tim was able to get us some shooting space surrounded by corn fields.  I doubt I will ever shoot another wedding where the only thing waiting for the bouquet to be tossed was a load of bird shot.

We have received the pics you sent – they are great! Tim and I were really excited to go through all of them to see your interpretation and perspective of the day! Your creativity really shows in the pictures as you captured so many different angles, lights, moments, and emotions. There are so many great pics of Tim and I, but the one where you caught my parents’ faces as I was saying my speech makes me cry every time I look at it. Thanks for all of your work throughout this entire process. You were a great help preparing for the day, and planning where to take the pictures. Your enthusiasm and willingness to be involved with the planning helped to make this one of the stress-free parts of the wedding planning process. We have already been getting amazing comments on the pics you sent as “sneak peaks”. We cannot wait to refer you to other brides and grooms!

This was a beautiful sunny day, and while it did make us all very hot, it also made for some great down-on-the-farm shots.  Hats off to Tim for transforming the dirt patch I originally saw in April into a great tent venue, on what had become a field of lush, green grass (I wish the grass in my yard would grow as well) by the day of the wedding.
